Directory Directory Opus 4 clones for other platforms

Every now and then, a former Amiga user stumbles across our pages. He usually ends up mailing us a
question like "I had to abandon my Amiga years ago, where can I get a copy of Directory
Opus 4 for my new Operating System ?".
Though the source codes for Directory Opus are freely available, nobody ported the program
to other computer platforms yet. The results certainly wouldn't justify such an effort, it would
make more sense to rewrite the program from scratch.
But various programmers, teams or companies are trying to clone DOpus for other computer
platforms. We compiled a list of those clones, as a guide for some of you lost souls out
there.
If you have any additions or corrections to this list, please let
us know.
Windows
GP Software, the original authors of the Amiga Directory
Opus have ported the later Version "DOpus Magellan" to Windows. You may want to have a look at their website for further
details (screenshots available). Commercial.
PCOpus tries "to
implement as much of DirOpus' original functionality and feeling as possible". Shareware
(50 DM / 25 US$).
Linux
Worker is a pretty accurate clone of
the original Amiga DirOpus. It nearly looks and feels like the original. Distributed under
the GPL.
Gentoo is a file manager clone for Linux, written
using the GTK+ toolkit. It claims to be "somewhat inspired in its look&feel by the classic
Amiga program Directory Opus". Distributed under the GPL.
Beos / OpenBeos / Haiku
Opus IV is a work in progress. It had been
more or less abandoned for a while, but the author seems to be working on it again.
OS/2
DirMaster is a powerful DOpus
inspired file manager for OS/2's presentation Manager. Commercial.
